Set Model 1// DS3
I soldered the steel elements to create the basic structure of the building/set.
I use mechanical component extracted from an old car. these components represent the machinery that will be in the building.
I added Steel flooring and canvas roofing systems to further represent the proposed design.
Facade Model// DS4
This was my initial sketch showing how the different components from a bike and car may be connected to construct the facade system.
The bike parts were stripped of their original paints, this allows for a coherence between components from different bikes.
Before starting to work on the parts i roughly assembled them according to the preliminary sketch.
I extracted the gears and part of the structure from two bikes.
All of the construction and preparation of the model took place in the workshop at my school.
Here is one of the two bike gears and structure after i had removed the paint using an angle grinder.
Here are all the mechanical components of the model allowing the car door facade system to pivot.
The car doors on the facade will also have all the paint remover using an angle grinder. This process will be done to allow the facade to be as reflective as possible. The indentions of the reflective door facade system is to keep the buildings internal spaces as cool as possible in the hot Mumbai days.
The bikes gears and pedals will be use as a handle and gear system to allow the car door to vertically open. This image is one of the cogs i have made using an old bike gear system and steel plate.
To hold the door i had to weld a steel frame together, this frame is not part of the facade system but mimics the secondary structure that attach the facade to the building primary structure.
because of the sheer weight of model it has been design so each component can be disassembled. This has been achieved by using a nut and bold connection instead of a steel weld.
The steering folks form a bike have been use to create a hinge allowing for the movement of the door.
At this point the facade mechanise wasn't attached but i have moved the door manually to demonstrate the movement that will take place when the system is complete.

Large Format Montage// DS4
My work station for the next 5 days.
Before construction any part of the image I printed it out to see if it would read as I indented. Figuring out the Axo drawing positing on the board before having it etched onto timber.
The concrete ground was created by mixing plaster with some acrylic paints (black&brown)
Parts of the slum were constructed using Timber rusty steel sheets and plastic tarpaulin (representative of reality)
